Horton
Foote, the greatest living American playwright along with David Mamet, Sam
Shephard and Tony
Kushner, has passed away. I always considered him to be vastly underrated and never felt his plays were produced enough. Perhaps my favorite is the play 1917, about the Great Flu Epidemic, which greatly influenced my own writing. It's hard to believe he's gone. He was someone you just thought was going to live forever, like your father.
